Montserrat Soufriere Hills Volcano Eruption Anniversary

This month we commemorate the onset of the eruption of the Soufrière Hills Volcano (SHV) in Montserrat which began in 1995. The Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) was established to monitor the volcano during this period. Fifty percent of the island’s population was evacuated to the north of the island and over 7000 people were displaced, with nineteen confirmed deaths.
